Music Monday (16) Twenty One Pilots, Lizzo, Cissie Redgwick, & Alice Francis

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Adri: Recently, I've listened to more electro swing. It's a type of music that I've been enjoying for the last few years. So, for this Monday's first pick, I chose Gimme That Swing by Cissie Redgwick. It was actually the first electro swing song that I heard that wasn't from the Great Gatsby soundtrack.

My second pick is also my second find thanks to recommendations from youtube: St. James Ballroom by Alice Francis. Its just so groovy to me.

Breana: I first heard about Twenty One Pilots back in 2015 when their song Stressed Out was released. I pretty much like all of the songs from the Blurryface album. So, you can imagine my excitement when Heathens came out. That song is so good. From the first time I heard it, I absolutely loved everything about it. Oh yeah, and the music video is pretty cool too.

My second pick this week is Worship by Lizzo, which is a song I’m really excited to share. Oh man, Lizzo is one of my favorite singers. I found her music by complete accident. I was looking for something new to listen to on youtube and happened to come across her song Humanize. Needless to say, Lizzo is awesome, and her Coconut Oil EP just gives me life. Worship is one of those songs that I can listen to on repeat and never get tired of it.

Do you have any songs that you came across by accident but really loved? If so, tell us in the comments down below.

Music Monday (15) Alabama Shakes, Janelle Monáe & Grimes

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Adri: For this Music Monday, I'm going with a song that came out a while ago, and when I first listened to it, I hoped that it would get a music video. The song is Venus Fly by Grimes featuring Janelle Monáe. I was already stoked when Grimes started releasing videos for songs off of her Art Angels album (like World Princess Part ll). However, I was even more stoked when the music video for Venus Fly was released just a few days ago. The song is so interesting and all I can say is that the music video was worth the wait.

Breana: Yes, I'm totally going to comment on this one. I wholeheartedly agree with Adri. Venus Fly is one of my favorite songs and I'm really glad that it got a music video. I mean, it features two of my favorite artists: Grimes and Janelle Monáe. It's creative, colorful, and fun to watch. The way it was filmed created an amazing result. If this was a movie, I'd totally see it.
Breana: I really only have one song to share this week, and that’s Don’t Wanna Fight by Alabama Shakes. Don’t Wanna Fight is an amazing song, I love everything about it. The feel of it is the epitome of blues with a hint of rock to the sound. Brittany Howard’s vocals are powerful and soulful, that’s the only way I can describe her voice. I really had a hard time deciding which version of the song I wanted to share—they’re both equally fantastic. In the end, I decided on the live version, which you can check out below.

What are you listening to this week?

Music Monday (14) Banks & LP

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana:

Recently, I revisited a few of my favorite songs that I haven’t listened to in a really long time. The first is Beggin for Thread by Banks. I first heard about Banks back in 2014 and haven’t really listened to too much of her music since. However, I recall really being a fan of Beggin for Thread and recently, I’ve gone back to the song several times and remember why I enjoyed listening to it in the first place.

Another favorite song of mine that I wanted to share was Night Like This by LP. Night Like This is another one of the songs that initially introduced me to the musician, which coincidently enough was also back in 2014. Lost on You is another great song by LP. I like the normal version as well as the live session.

Have you recently listened to any songs that are old (possibly previously forgotten) favorites?

Music Monday (13) MØ, The 1975, & Kerli

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Adri:

After Disney’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland came out—Kerli sang Tea Party for the movie—Breana and I continued to follow her. You don’t know how long I’ve waited to feature Kerli on Music Monday!

For my first pick, I choose Feral Hearts. Not only is it the first Kerli song I’ve listened to in a while, but I really loved the music video. Even thought I found the visuals enchanting, after watching the behind the scenes I admired the video even more. I really like the meaning and inspiration behind each area and outfit. In addition, I loved seeing how each look came together.

(p.s. also check out the Sacred Forest Session of Feral Hearts HERE)

One of Kerli's newer songs includes Spirit Animal. I can’t really explain it, but I’m really in love with it. I can only hope that there’ll be a music video for it!

Breana:

My first pick this week is Final Song by MØ. The first time I heard of MØ was when I was watching the Coachella livestream back in 2015, and happened to catch her performance. Before then, I’d never actually heard of her, but her live performance really impressed me. Since then, I’ve followed her music.

One of the reasons why I love Final Song is the catchy beat. It’s a nice song, and the music video is kind of simple but also awesome. I especially like the scenery in the background.

My second pick is The Sound by The 1975. I haven’t listened to a lot of music by The 1975—not yet anyway, but I plan to fix that soon. The Sound is the song that introduced me to their music. I happened to hear the song while listening to one of my favorite google music channels, and instantly loved the sound of it.

Have you ever discovered a group while watching a TV show, movie, or a Coachella livestream?

Music Monday (12) Samsaya & Laura Mvula

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Last Monday, we took a bit of a detour and skipped Music Monday. But, we’re back.
Breana:

I only have one song to talk about this week: Beginning at the End by Samsaya. I first heard about Samsaya back in 2015, and while I haven’t listened to much of her music lately, Beginning at the End is the one song I know and love. The music video for it is kind of simple, but that's what I love about it.

Adri:

For this Music Monday, I decided that I wanted to show another artist who I not only liked upon first listening, but also find really inspirational: Laura Mvula. The first song I chose is Overcome featuring Nile Rodgers. After listening to Lianne La Havas' Unstoppable for a while, I saw this in the recommendations. I adored the song and the video so much that I often have it on repeat. So now, I'm recommending it to you.

After I was able to pry myself away from the first song, I went to check out some of her other songs. Although, it looked pretty, I had to check out Phenomenal Woman because it has the same name as a Maya Angelou poem. All I can say is I'm glad I did. The song makes me want to jump out of my chair and dance around.

Are there any songs that make you want to dance?

Music Monday (11) Epic Music Edition

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE

I’m finally back from my blogging break, thus ends my weekly meme hiatus. To get back into the swing of things, I’m starting out with Music Monday. Adri is also back, and today, we’re going to share some of our favorite epic music (also known as trailer music).

Breana:

Besides the Christmas edition of Music Monday, this is another post I’m really excited to do. I listen to a lot of epic music, because, lets be honest here, there’s just so much of it. Many of the groups I know of I found by random on Youtube, or by recommendation (thanks Adri!). My first pick this week is Adventures of Gillock by Two Steps From Hell. This is one of my favorite songs, but it’s so short! This is one of the songs that I wish was longer than it really is. One minute and nine seconds just isn’t enough. :-(

My second pick is All the King's Horses also by Two Steps from Hell. I love how upbeat it is. And like Adventures of Gillock, I wish this song was a little longer.

Adri:

Since we're kicking off 2017 (epically), I want to start with one of my favorite songs called Wyatt Earth by Globus. I really love all of their songs on the Break From This World album, but Wyatt Earth speaks to me the most. I could type on and on about this song, but I'm not. So, here's my first Music Monday pick of 2017.

Do you listen to epic music? If so, tell us your favorite songs in the comments below.

Music Monday (10) The Christmas Edition

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE

It’s the 19th, which means that its time for the Christmas Edition of Music Monday. Yes! I have been waiting all month to do this post. So today, Adri and I are going to share some of our favorite holiday music.
Breana: My first pick this week is O Holy Night performed by Mariah Carey. I actually really like the entire Merry Christmas album, but O Holy Night is just so fantastic. Mariah Carey’s version is still one of my favorites. I grew up listening to this version of O Holy Night, so it's no wonder why I still enjoy listening to it every December.

My second pick this week is Carol of Bells sung by Pentatonix. It’s just so good! I also recommend checking out more of Pentatonix's holiday music.

Adri: Okay, so I like a lot of the Christmas songs, but for me this is the season of "I really don't want to get out of bed, its too cold!" As such, I like to listen to smoother songs. So here are two of the songs I'm listening to, but trust me, there is a lot more. I'm just not naming them.

My first selection is O Holy Night sung by Yolanda Adams. I never actually "found" this song, rather I've just been listen to it since the ipod shuffle 2nd gen (thanks mom).

For my final song, I'm going with Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas performed by Kenny G. For me, this song is more of a recent find; however, I have listened to his other songs too. I find myself listening to this version when I want to get into a festive mood and relax.

What is some of the go-to music off your holiday playlist?

Music Monday (9) Kimbra, Samantha James & Haywyre

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Man, I can’t believe how close the end of the year is, and with Christmas and other holiday’s right around the corner, it’s almost time to do a holiday music edition of Music Monday—just not today, but expect that soon. In other good news, this week, Adri is back with more recommendations.
My first pick is Cameo Lover by Kimbra. This is probably one of my favorite songs by Kimbra, mainly because it introduced me to her music back in 2012. The style of the Cameo Lover music video is simple but really colorful and fun.

My second pick is also from Kimbra. Good Intent is another one of my favorite songs. And, I really love the tap dance sequence from the music video. It loosely of reminds me of Swing Time, the second major tap dance scene with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire.

For my first selection today, I'm going with an artist I recently discovered about a month or two ago. That artist is Samantha James. While I love a lot of her songs, Find A Way stood out the most to me.

For my second pick, I was searching "doppelganger" on Soundcloud when I came across Haywyre (I'm obsessed with Two Fold part 1 and 2). Now, of course I like Doppelganger, and no one song is my favorite, but when Insight was released I couldn't help but to have it on repeat. As if I couldn't love it anymore, I listened to the live performance, and was wowed.

Music Monday conversation corner (since we had too much to talk about this week, and couldn't fit it in above).

Breana: I totally agree with Adri. I'm really impressed with the live performance of Insight. It's the kind of song that I want to listen to on repeat.

Adri: I know right. I told you so.

Adri: Also, now that you got me started on tap dancing, the Nicholas Brothers in Stormy Weather...OMG.  **pulls up clips for reference**

Breana: Yeah, OMG. They are good at dancing. I'm actually really impressed. By the way, thanks for showing me the clips.
Are there songs you listen to on repeat? If so, tell us in the comments below.

Music Monday (8) Chloe X Halle

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Adri is off to Hollywood to see a show, so today, I'm doing Music Monday alone. Hopefully, she'll have the time next week and be back with more recommendations. Until them, I'm going to go ahead and share some of the music I've been listening to recently.

My picks this week are Fall and Drop by Chloe X Halle. I absolutely love their music, and I’m only sad that I didn’t discover them sooner. The music videos for Drop and Fall are also really gorgeous. The locations used were just spot on. These are two of the best songs I’ve come across this year. Drop is positively fantastic and the first song I actually heard by Chloe X Halle. I really enjoy the background music as well as the vocals.

Fall is just as great. The vocals and lyrics are the star of the show, and just like Drop above, the filming of the music video is spot on.

What new music are you listening to this week?

Music Monday (7) The Video Game Edition

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
I was mostly offline at the end of last week. I was pretty busy and took a somewhat impromptu break from the internet. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Anyway, welcome back to Music Monday. This week Adri and I are tackling some of our favorite video game trailers and theme songs, hence the title of this post.

My first pick this week is Glockenpop by Spiderbait, which is one of the songs featured in Little Big Planet. I always like to play the levels that use this song since it’s so catchy, and I don’t mind listening to it more than once in a ten minute timeframe (or however long it takes me to beat the level). From the Little Big Planet OST (original soundtrack), I think Glockenpop captures the feel of the game best.

My second pick is Blackheart by Two Steps From Hell, which is used in the PlayStation 4 trailer. I regularly listen to Two Steps From Hell. I really enjoy their music. So, I liked Blackheart even before it was used for the trailer. I might even have to do another post that features a couple more of my favorite Two Steps From Hell songs.

Well, since I'm becoming a permanent blogger here...

This week, we're focusing on video games so my selections are based off a game I fell in love with: Mirror's Edge. I found the game because the PlayStation store had some type of anniversary thing gong on at the time, and the game was free. At the end of the game, the song Still Alive sung by Lisa Miskovsky plays as the credits roll; unfortunately, I didn't care for the song at the time.  **Fun Fact: Still Alive is also the name of the song that plays at the end of Portal (Yet another pair of songs that share the same name).**

It wasn't until the reboot (which at the time, I mistakenly assumed was the sequel) was announced that I started to like Still Alive. However, history repeats and the same thing happened with Mirror's Edge Catalyst. I was not a fan of CHVRCHES' Warning Call, but of course, I found myself coming back to the song. I guess you could say I'm listening to this song until I can actually play Mirror's Edge Catalyst. **cries** :,-(

On a side note, I have also been listening to the soundtrack released by Solar Fields while playing the original Mirror's Edge. I love Savant, the Anchor District, and Catalyst.
What are some of your favorite video game theme songs?

Music Monday (6) Tinashe, Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas, and the trio of Jaded(s)

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me, that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Normally, I don’t participate in two memes in one day, but today I’m going to do it. So, in addition to Music Monday, I'm also participating in Musing Mondays for the first time in a couple of weeks. And, of course, Adri is back today, and we’re going to talk about more of the music we’re currently listening to.
For my first pick today, I'm going with one of my favorite songs,  Feels Like Vegas by Tinashe. I first heard about Tinashe while listening to a radio station—I don’t remember which it was—but I do remember really liking All Hands on Deck, which led me to search for more of her music. And that's how I discovered Feels Like Vegas.

Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas are so underrated, which is a shame because I really love their music, especially Tired Oak. There are other fantastic songs like Caught Up and Sorry I Stole Your Man, but for today I'm sticking with Tired Oak.

Hi, Adri here again, I'm back for another round of Music Monday. This week, I wanted to share music in a slightly different way. Hence, the last part of the title for this post "...and the trio of Jaded(s)". For my picks this week, all the songs have the same name, but they are different.

For Jaded by Deadmau5, I only found it because I went hunting for other songs after listening to ALL the versions of Ghost N Stuff.

I've been listening to a lot of songs by Lone after finding the song Pineapple Crush. So, I was around when Reality Testing dropped. Naturally, I tried to listen to all of the songs when I found Jaded. Lone has too many songs, and I don't favor one over the other (he can't put out any songs that I don't like).

And the last song from the trio of Jaded(s). I've been listening to Disclosure since their song featuring Sam Smith. So, like Lone, I was following them when their album dropped. After listening to the song and watching the video a couple of times, it was then that I realized that Jaded looked familiar. And I was right. Dun-dun-dun!

Have you listened to any songs that have the same or similar name?
