Music Monday (25) Halsey, Hayley Kiyoko, Aanysa X Snakehips, & Ibeyi

   Rules:

Adri: My choices for Music Monday today are basically two songs that have been stuck in my head for the past month. My first pick is Burn Break Crash by Aanysa X Snakehips. I love it simply because it always makes me want to sing along and dance. Plus, I can't forget it...

My second pick is River by Ibeyi. Even though I find it kind of simple (less instrumental sounds than other songs I listen to) it really draws me in, just like Burn Break Crash did.

Breana: Once again, I was going through some of my old playlists from years ago, and I happened to come across This Side of Paradise by Hayley Kiyoko. I actually forgot about this song for a while. Here’s a fun fact: Hayley Kiyoko actually played Velma in the two live-action Scooby-Doo movies, Curse of the Lake Monster & The Mystery Begins. I totally did not know that until I looked up Hayley Kiyoko while working on this post, to see if she had any new music out.

My second pick this week is Strangers by Halsey featuring Lauren Jauregui. First off, NEW MUSIC BY HALSEY, YESSSS! I have been waiting for Hopeless Fountain Kingdom for what seems like forever, but now it’s out. Strangers is one of my favorite songs from the album.

Music Monday (24) Janelle Monáe & Charli XCX,

Breana: My first pick this week is Cold War by Janelle Monáe. I feel like I’m always mentioning Janelle Monáe, but she has released a lot of great songs that I just want to talk about. I also listen to The Electric Lady and ArchAndroid albums often, so I was bound to talk about her music again. So, Cold War, yeah, it’s a fantastic song.

My second pick this week is Take My Hand by Charli XCX. I first heard of her back in 2013 when her True Romance album came out. And let me tell you, I used to listen to that entire album often and on repeat. I don’t know why I stopped listening to it for a while. It’s only recently that I started listening to True Romance again and remembered why it’s one of my favorite albums. As for Take My Hand, well, I love this song so much. It’s one of the best songs from the album. There are other great songs too like Black Roses, Nuclear Seasons, and Lock You Up.

Music Monday (23) RL Grime, Rihanna, & Jamiroquai

Adri: I couldn't believe that I missed Reims by RL Grime, which is why it's my first pick this week.

My second pick is Automaton by Jamiroquai. I couldn't resist clicking the icon when I saw it on YouTube. Yes, I was once again thumbnail browsing for new music. I got some serious Tron-ish vibes from the music video. And now, I'm sharing it here because it deserves to be shared.

Breana: My picks for this week are Dancing in the Dark and Towards the Sun by Rihanna. These are actually two of my favorite songs, and what’s sad is that they’re so underrated. Now, I haven't actually watched Home, but Adri did see it and has mentioned that she really loved the main character. She also says that it was a good movie. So, I'll have to see Home eventually.

Music Monday (22) Tove Lo

Breana: My pick this week is Imaginary Friend by Tove Lo. I first heard of Tove Lo around the time of Queen of the Clouds initial release. Queen of the Clouds is one of my all-time favorite albums. Recently, I've gotten into listening to Tove Lo's latest album, Lady Wood. Lady Wood is kind of awesome.

My second pick is Flashes. This is also by Tove Lo and my number one favorite song from the album. So far, Imaginary Friend and Flashes are my top two favorite songs; although, I'd recommend the entire album because there are other gems like Lady Wood and Don't Talk About It.

Music Monday (21) Min Kym & Nao

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: My first pick this week is Sonata for Solo Violin in D Major, Op. 115: I.  Moderato performed by Min Kym. I found this song because I recently read Min Kym's memoir for the other blog I write for. I was curious about her music since it was such a prominent part of her memoir. So, I looked her up on youtube and found out that a companion album for Gone (her memoir) was also recently released. Needless to say, I spent some time listening to the entire album, and really enjoyed it. This is one of my favorites.

My second pick is In the Morning by Nao. Adri actually recommended Nao to me about a week or so ago, and I absolutely loved the couple of songs I listened to. So, I was pretty excited when I found out that Nao was preforming at Coachella, and I watched her performance during the livestream. I'm going to just say that her live performance of In the Morning was phenomenal.

Adri: I found Nao, like many artist I listen to, while scrolling through youtube recommendations. (Thank you again, youtube.) Anyway, I really dig Fool to Love, and I can't get over it!

Breana: When I went to pick the songs I wanted to talk about this week, I already had a clear idea in mind. The only problem was deciding on which two I wanted to actually included in this post. While the decision was hard, I still made one. My picks this week are Everything is Beautiful and Aphrodite by Kylie Minogue. Those are just two of my favorite songs by Minogue. Others included Chocolate, Closer, Can’t Beat the Feeling, Wow, Cupid Boy, Illusion, and Get Outta My Way—the list just goes on.

Kylie Minogue is one of my all-time favorite artists. Over the weekend I listened to a couple of songs from  her Aphrodite album again.

Music Monday (19) Rag'n'Bone Man, La'Porsha Renae + Upcoming Music

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: Originally, I only had one song to share this week, but my co-blogger, Andrea, mentioned an album that's coming out soon. More on that later. First, I'm going to start with Human by Rag’n’Bone Man. I’ll admit that I only recently heard about this song, and that’s because a video game trailer happened to be the ad I got stuck watching—which turned out to be the best ad ever, because I love this song so much! There is something so addictive about Human. I can’t tell if it’s just the lyrics, vocals, or the beat. I suspect that it’s a combination of all three. I recommend giving it a listen.

Okay, remember how I mentioned that album? Well, now I'm going to talk about it. La'Porsha Renae's Already All Ready album is going to come out in about 4 days from now. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for this album. But for now, you can check out her What Is Love song.

Are there any albums you're looking forward to? If so, tell me in the comments down below.

Music Monday (18) Victoria Monet & FKJ

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE

Breana: My picks this week are We Are People and Good Times X Trouble by Victoria Monet. This past Saturday I happened to be listening to google music when I heard Victoria Monet’s song, We Are People. I instantly loved it! Since then, I’ve listened to her Nightmares & Lullaby EP’s, Act 1 & 2. I found it kind of hard to narrow down which two songs I wanted to mention for Music Monday, because those EP’s are gold. Eventually, I decided on We Are People and Good Times X Trouble because they are truly lovely songs.

First up is We Are People. I’ve listened to this song more than a dozen times by now. I love everything about it.

Good Times X Trouble is the second song I listened to after I stopped playing We Are People on repeat. This is another good one, but really, I recommend giving both EP’s a listen. There are other great songs worth mentioning like Backyard, Cupid, and Mad Generation.

Adri: This week I've been lovin' Skyline by FKJ (If you look under the youtube about page for FKJ it stands for French Kiwi Juice). I had no words when I first heard the song. I just don't know, it's hard to describe. I just love it.

Music Monday (17) Florence + The Machine, Rihanna, & Lone

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: Lately, I've been listening to Florence + The Machine again. I haven't listened to much of their newer music, but their Ceremonials albums is still one of my favorites. So, my pick for today is Shake it Out by Florence + The Machine. It can't believe its been five years since that music video first came out. It seems like such a long time ago. Shake it Out is still one of favorite songs by this group. Other songs I love by Florence + The Machine are Howl and Drumming Song.

Adri: This week, I'm sharing two of my insta-favorite songs. A.K.A. songs I feel in love with after only giving them a fourth of a listen. My first pick is Sledgehammer by Rihanna. I first heard this song on one of the trailers for Star Trek Beyond. Since then, I haven't stopped listening to it. All I can say is...TOTALLY LOVE IT!

My second pick is Spirals by Lone featuring Anneka. Although I loved the entire Galaxy Garden album on the first listen, Spirals really spoke to me. To me, it has an ambient feel (and I love ambient music). If I had to pick my top three insta-favorite songs from the album it would be Spirals followed by Crystal Caverns 1991 and Cthulhu featuring Machinedrum.

Music Monday (16) Twenty One Pilots, Lizzo, Cissie Redgwick, & Alice Francis

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Adri: Recently, I've listened to more electro swing. It's a type of music that I've been enjoying for the last few years. So, for this Monday's first pick, I chose Gimme That Swing by Cissie Redgwick. It was actually the first electro swing song that I heard that wasn't from the Great Gatsby soundtrack.

My second pick is also my second find thanks to recommendations from youtube: St. James Ballroom by Alice Francis. Its just so groovy to me.

Breana: I first heard about Twenty One Pilots back in 2015 when their song Stressed Out was released. I pretty much like all of the songs from the Blurryface album. So, you can imagine my excitement when Heathens came out. That song is so good. From the first time I heard it, I absolutely loved everything about it. Oh yeah, and the music video is pretty cool too.

My second pick this week is Worship by Lizzo, which is a song I’m really excited to share. Oh man, Lizzo is one of my favorite singers. I found her music by complete accident. I was looking for something new to listen to on youtube and happened to come across her song Humanize. Needless to say, Lizzo is awesome, and her Coconut Oil EP just gives me life. Worship is one of those songs that I can listen to on repeat and never get tired of it.

Do you have any songs that you came across by accident but really loved? If so, tell us in the comments down below.

Music Monday (15) Alabama Shakes, Janelle Monáe & Grimes

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Adri: For this Music Monday, I'm going with a song that came out a while ago, and when I first listened to it, I hoped that it would get a music video. The song is Venus Fly by Grimes featuring Janelle Monáe. I was already stoked when Grimes started releasing videos for songs off of her Art Angels album (like World Princess Part ll). However, I was even more stoked when the music video for Venus Fly was released just a few days ago. The song is so interesting and all I can say is that the music video was worth the wait.

Breana: Yes, I'm totally going to comment on this one. I wholeheartedly agree with Adri. Venus Fly is one of my favorite songs and I'm really glad that it got a music video. I mean, it features two of my favorite artists: Grimes and Janelle Monáe. It's creative, colorful, and fun to watch. The way it was filmed created an amazing result. If this was a movie, I'd totally see it.
Breana: I really only have one song to share this week, and that’s Don’t Wanna Fight by Alabama Shakes. Don’t Wanna Fight is an amazing song, I love everything about it. The feel of it is the epitome of blues with a hint of rock to the sound. Brittany Howard’s vocals are powerful and soulful, that’s the only way I can describe her voice. I really had a hard time deciding which version of the song I wanted to share—they’re both equally fantastic. In the end, I decided on the live version, which you can check out below.
