Music Monday (33): Holiday Music Part 1

Rules:

Breana: This is one post I always look forward to writing. And this year is no different, except for the fact that there have been a lot of holiday albums released just in time for December. My pick this week is Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Lindsey Stirling. I was already a fan of Stirling’s music before she released her holiday album, Warmer in the Winter. Needless to say, I’ve been enjoying it. One of my favorites from the album is Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, which also has a gorgeous music video.

Adri: For this Music Monday, I’m choosing  Christmas C ’mon also by Lindsey Stirling; featuring vocals from Becky G, this song appears on the same album. I think I like this song because she preformed it on Dancing with the Stars on the outside stage, albeit, I attended the inside portion… but hey, we got to see the finale performances. Honestly, on a side note, I found her freestyle performance on the first night of the finale exciting. After the finale, we got her CD ASAP.

Music Monday (32): Purity Ring

   Rules:

Breana: It’s been some time since I lasted participated in Music Monday, but I honestly haven’t had any new songs to share. However, this past week, I’ve been listened to Google Play Music again and have discovered some new music by a familiar artist that I want to share.

I haven’t listened to Purity Ring (the band) since their 2012 album, Shrines, which is one of my favorites in the electronic (electropop/synthpop) genre. I’m actually a little surprised that I missed the release of their second album, Another Eternity, back in 2015. Suffice it to say, I’ve been listening to Another Eternity all weekend. I really love the sound of the album and it does remind me a little of Grimes’s Art Angel album, but it’s still unique. A couple of songs in particular are my favorite. My first pick is Begin Again. I love everything about this song, and the beat sounds particularly fantastic with headphones on.

My second pick is Repetition, which is the song I heard while listening to Google Play Music. Without Repetition I might have continued to overlook Another Eternity altogether.

Have you discovered any new music this week?

Music Monday (31): Banks, Gorillaz, and Ameriie

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: I haven’t participated in Music Monday in a while, because I honestly wasn’t listening to anything new. Well, during my absence, I’ve listened to everything from youtube channels that make songs based off video games—like NateWantsToBattle and JT Machinima—to Banks’s sophomore album, The Altar. For today, I’m going to just stick to Banks, specifically, The Altar. It’s not a new album since it came out back in 2016. It’s taken me till now to listen to the entire album, and I just have to say that I love it!

27 Hours is my first pick. Arguably, it’s my favorite song from the album. I love the sound of it. The beginning is good, but once the beat drops I’m just like “Yes.”

My second pick is Poltergeist. I also love this song for its sound. It just fits with the vibes given off by the rest of the album. I’m not going to lie. I’m a total fan of it.

Adri: For this Music Monday, I’m choosing two song that kept me up, literally. Towards the end of last week I delved into a sewing project that required attention to details. Consequently, I decided to stay up later than usual, so I needed songs that didn’t cause a snooze fest. Now, of course I listened to a lot of music, but these are two songs that I kept coming back to. These songs are Strobelite by Gorillaz feat. Peven Everett and Gotta Work by Ameriie.

On a side note, although the last video was posted in July, Ameriie has her own Youtube channel which consist of videos about books and beauty.

Music Monday (30): Black Eyed Peas, Disclosure and Lion Babe

Breana: Lately, I’ve gone back and listened to a lot of favorite songs that I haven’t thought of in years. The last time I participated in Music Monday, I talked about Rock Angelz. Well, from there, I’ve gone back to Monkey Business by Black Eyed Peas, Lincoln Park, Christina Agulara, and even Gwen Stefani. Anyway, I’m here to talk about The Black Eyed Peas. Back in 2005 Monkey Business was my go-to music. No playlist, just the album. It’s hard to believe that Monkey Business has been out for twelve years already. My first pick is Disco Club. To this day, Disco club still has one of the catchiest beats I’ve ever heard. There’s something kind of groovy about this song. I love it.

My second pick is Don’t Lie. After all these years, Don't Lie is still one of my favorite songs from the Monkey Business Album.

Adri:I have a small confession. There are moments in time that I don’t listen to music, at least not like that. When start listening to music again, the first thing I put in the search bar is my pick for Music Mondays: Hourglass by Disclosure featuring Lion Babe. Not only do I love this song but when I found it, I also found a new artist.

Music Monday (29) Throwback To Way Back When

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE

Breana: It has been a couple of weeks since we last participated in Music Monday. However, today is a bit of a throwback to the early 2000s, since my picks this week actually come from an album I haven’t listened to in more than five years: Bratz Rock Angelz. Does anyone else remember Bratz? I used to have a lot of the dolls and still have the Rock Angelz game for the Gameboy Advance SP. Anyway, over the weekend I remembered that I once had a CD, but I’ve moved several times and can’t recall where it is. Anyway, listening to this album again takes me right back to my childhood. Seriously, it really does. I used to listen to Rock Angelz all the time. I kind of wish that I never lost the CD, but it is what it is. The most surprising thing is how much I still like the entire album. It’s on iTunes and I’ve seriously considered buying it again.

My first pick is It Could Be Yours. Oh man, after all theses years I still love this song.

And my second pick is Who I Am. I can’t even begin to count how many times I've listened to this song. I used to listen to it on repeat because its one of my favorites from the album. Even though its been so long, Who I Am hasn't lost its charm.

Adri: I love this album too. I had a different one than Breana. Sadly, I won't mention what happened to the one I had, but just know that it's gooonnnneee. I don't have much to say about these tracks, but when I heard Breana listening to them again I had a mega flashback too.

Music Monday (28) Halsey

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana:  A couple of weeks back, I mentioned that Halsey’s new album came out, and since then I’ve been pretty much listening to Hopeless Fountain Kingdom on repeat. I really love the look and sound of this album. So, I don’t have any new artist to talk about today, only a couple more of my favorite songs from Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.

My first pick this week is Now or Never. Oh man, I love this song. There’s something about it that just speaks to me. Then again, I feel that way about the entire album so my opinion about the song is clearly biased.

My second pick is Bad at Love. I won’t waste time by explaining what I like about this song. All I have to say is: give it a listen.

Music Monday (27) Forever in Your Mind & TLC

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Today, we are so excited to take part in Music Monday. We went to a couple of live shows last week and heard a couple of new songs that left us with a lasting impression.

For our first pick today, we're sharing Smooth by Forever in Your Mind.  Actually, we hadn't heard of this band before we went to a taping of Netflix’s new show Alexa & Katie, which stars Emory Kelly who is a part of the band. Emory Kelly and Ricky Garcia were there and sang impromptu. All we can say is the video doesn’t do it justice! They are also in the running for a Teen Choice Award, and needless to say, they will definitely get our votes!

Our second pick is Way Back by TLC. On Thursday, we went to the TLC Outdoor Mini-Concert at Jimmy Kimmel Live. They sang Way Back with Snoop Dogg, No Scrubs, Waterfalls, and It’s Sunny –with the first and latter songs being from their new album TLC—the latest addition to our CD collection.

*Breana will be handling comments*
We would love to hear your thoughts about these songs. What are you listening to this week?

Music Monday (26) Daft Punk & Nero

   Rules:

Breana: I’ve been listening to a lot of film soundtracks lately—I blame all the movies I’ve been watching. **cough-cough Wonder Woman…cough** Of course, I’ve gone back and listened to Daft Punk’s Tron Legacy Album, and Pacific Rim’s entire OST. Anyway, my first pick this week is Derezzed by Daft Punk. This is one of my favorite songs from the Tron Legacy soundtrack.

I also started listening to Nero again because I was looking for music that had a Tron Legacy-ish vibe. And I found what I was looking for. Honestly, I can’t believe I forgot how much I liked Nero’s music. So, my second pick is Promises.

Music Monday (25) Halsey, Hayley Kiyoko, Aanysa X Snakehips, & Ibeyi

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Adri: My choices for Music Monday today are basically two songs that have been stuck in my head for the past month. My first pick is Burn Break Crash by Aanysa X Snakehips. I love it simply because it always makes me want to sing along and dance. Plus, I can't forget it...

My second pick is River by Ibeyi. Even though I find it kind of simple (less instrumental sounds than other songs I listen to) it really draws me in, just like Burn Break Crash did.

Breana: Once again, I was going through some of my old playlists from years ago, and I happened to come across This Side of Paradise by Hayley Kiyoko. I actually forgot about this song for a while. Here’s a fun fact: Hayley Kiyoko actually played Velma in the two live-action Scooby-Doo movies, Curse of the Lake Monster & The Mystery Begins. I totally did not know that until I looked up Hayley Kiyoko while working on this post, to see if she had any new music out.

My second pick this week is Strangers by Halsey featuring Lauren Jauregui. First off, NEW MUSIC BY HALSEY, YESSSS! I have been waiting for Hopeless Fountain Kingdom for what seems like forever, but now it’s out. Strangers is one of my favorite songs from the album.

Music Monday (24) Janelle Monáe & Charli XCX,

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: My first pick this week is Cold War by Janelle Monáe. I feel like I’m always mentioning Janelle Monáe, but she has released a lot of great songs that I just want to talk about. I also listen to The Electric Lady and ArchAndroid albums often, so I was bound to talk about her music again. So, Cold War, yeah, it’s a fantastic song.

My second pick this week is Take My Hand by Charli XCX. I first heard of her back in 2013 when her True Romance album came out. And let me tell you, I used to listen to that entire album often and on repeat. I don’t know why I stopped listening to it for a while. It’s only recently that I started listening to True Romance again and remembered why it’s one of my favorite albums. As for Take My Hand, well, I love this song so much. It’s one of the best songs from the album. There are other great songs too like Black Roses, Nuclear Seasons, and Lock You Up.

Music Monday (23) RL Grime, Rihanna, & Jamiroquai

   Rules:

Adri: I couldn't believe that I missed Reims by RL Grime, which is why it's my first pick this week.

My second pick is Automaton by Jamiroquai. I couldn't resist clicking the icon when I saw it on YouTube. Yes, I was once again thumbnail browsing for new music. I got some serious Tron-ish vibes from the music video. And now, I'm sharing it here because it deserves to be shared.

Breana: My picks for this week are Dancing in the Dark and Towards the Sun by Rihanna. These are actually two of my favorite songs, and what’s sad is that they’re so underrated. Now, I haven't actually watched Home, but Adri did see it and has mentioned that she really loved the main character. She also says that it was a good movie. So, I'll have to see Home eventually.

Music Monday (22) Tove Lo

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: My pick this week is Imaginary Friend by Tove Lo. I first heard of Tove Lo around the time of Queen of the Clouds initial release. Queen of the Clouds is one of my all-time favorite albums. Recently, I've gotten into listening to Tove Lo's latest album, Lady Wood. Lady Wood is kind of awesome.

My second pick is Flashes. This is also by Tove Lo and my number one favorite song from the album. So far, Imaginary Friend and Flashes are my top two favorite songs; although, I'd recommend the entire album because there are other gems like Lady Wood and Don't Talk About It.
