Musing Mondays (30)

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB(Jenn) at A Daily Rhythm, that asks you to muse about something book related each week.

My Musings for the Week...

Have you ever started a series or trilogy but then never ended up finishing it? I know I have over the years for a variety of reasons. Below is a short list of the most common reasons as to why I haven’t finished a series...
  • Lost Interest/ Bored
  • Series took a turn for the worse halfway through
  • First book failed to impress me
  • Really liked the initial series but the spinoff novels aren't really doing much for me
  • I just don’t have the last book(s), yet…
  • Uncertain if the end will live up to the glory and wonderfulness of the previous books
  • Finally, sometimes they just need to end, and I don't have the enthusiasm to continue...
I don’t know, maybe later I’ll do a list of series I haven’t finished, but those are the most common reasons why.

So, what are your most common reasons for not finishing a series/trilogy?

  1. I find that if I read a trilogy or series too close together, I begin to get a bit tired of the same characters and/or situations. And then if I let too much time go in between reading the segments, I have to skim the last installments to recall what's going on!

    1. I totally agree with you, which is why I like standalone since the story is wrapped up in one book. Thanks for stopping by and have a great Memorial Day!

  2. I think it is possible that you listed them all, although I am a sucker for series and will usually follow through. But gave up on Outlander after the first one.

    1. I do like to continue on with a series, but if at some point I stop enjoying the books then that's when I'll move on to something else. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  3. Yes. I started the Outlander series and just couldn't read past book one. Too much romance, for me.

    1. I haven't actually read that series, but that is a valid reason for not finishing a book. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  4. A lot of times I love the first book but can't get into the second; third books are ok, but I rarely enjoy the second in a series. And I am one who enjoyed the Outlander series, but even so, there's just too much in those books! Too much detail, and yes, too much romance for some! Here's my musing! http://hollykerr.ca/mondays-musings-hubby-finds-me-a-book/
