Music Monday (44): Kimbra, Kehlani, & David Bowie

   Rules:

Breana: Okay, I know I keep talking about Primal Heart by Kimbra, but I love the album a lot and have basically been listening to it on repeat. My first pick is Like They Do On The TV. I love everything about this song...

I'm also listening to Kehlani's album again. I've mentioned it before on the blog but never talked about any of my favorite songs from the album except for In My Feelings. So, here's another good one: Undercover....

Adri: I often attend the tapings of TV shows. One of my favorite shows is Jimmy Kimmel Live, especially the outdoor concerts. Before the concert starts, while the audience is entering, they often play music.  Well, Let's Dance by the late David Bowie was playing at one. Ever since then it's been stuck in my head....

Music Monday (43): St. Vincent

   Rules:

Breana: Lately, I’ve been trying to expand my (music) horizons by broadening the list of musicians I’m currently listening to. And that is precisely why I’ve been listening to St. Vincent’s latest album, Masseduction. As a whole, I like the album a lot. I think St. Vincent has something going here, and I’m not going to lie, I’m a total fan of the guitar riffs. The first song I want to talk about is Los Angeles. Gosh, I love this song a lot! It encompasses what I like about St. Vincent’s music with its lyrical strength, and again, those guitar riffs...

My second pick is Pills, also by St. Vincent. This is another one of my favorite songs from Masseduction. I like the almost cheerful tone the song takes on during the chorus. All around, it’s a good song…

Breana: Recently, there have been a lot of new albums coming out, and what I’ve been listening to basically consists of almost everything I mentioned in my last music related post. My first pick is Joyride by Tinashe. This is one of my favorite songs from the album and it’s second only to No Drama...

Kimbra’s new album came out last Friday and I’ve been listening to it off and on since. One of my favorite songs is Human. I love the sound of it....

Of course, there are other songs from Primal Heart that I really loved like Top of the World, Like They Do On the TV, and Recovery. With that said, I recommend checking out the whole album particularly if you’re already a fan of Kimbra’s music or are looking for a good place to start…

Music Monday (41): Chloe X Halle

Breana: This isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned Chloe X Halle on a Music Monday post. It’s just been a while. Since then, on March 23rd, they released their debut studio album, The Kids are Alright. And I love it. So, my first pick is Warrior. You might recognize the song since it appeared on A Wrinkle in Time (2018) soundtrack. It’s also on their new album….

My second pick is Galaxy. I also love this song. In fact, it fits with the sound of the album and is one of my favorite songs by Chloe x Halle.

I recommend checking out the entire album, because it’s pretty awesome. What are you listening to this week?

Music Monday (40): Flume, Tove Lo, and Miguel

Breana: Oh man, I haven’t been listening to a lot of new music recently. It’s been a couple of those kinds of weeks where all I want to listen to are playlists of all my favorite music, which is great for me, but not so good for blog content. Oh well....

My first pick this week is Say It by Flume featuring Tove Lo. There’s not really a story to how I came across this song. It wasn’t a happy accident, or even really an accidental discovery since I sought it out. About a year or so ago, I happened to be looking up Tove Lo to see what other music she’d been a part of outside of her three albums (two at the time)—Queen of the Clouds, Lady Wood, and Blue Lips. That’s how I found Say It. I don’t listen to too much of Flume’s music. However, when I find a song by them that I find particularly catchy, it quickly joins the same ranks as some of my all-time favorite music....

My second pick is Bannana Clip by Miguel. Over the past two weeks, I’ve been making my way through more of Miguel’s music. There are so many songs that I absolutely adore like Waves (which I already mentioned on a different Music Monday post), Adore, and Sky Walker featuring Travis Scott....

Breana: My pick this week is Bloodstream by Transviolet. I head this song while listening to google music and instantly loved the sound of it. Since then, I’ve listened to more music by Transviolet…

Adri:  My pick this week is Parts by OSHUN. I absolutely adore this song. From the futurism/sci fi right down to the beat, I have had it on repeat. I also love the clothes, especially from the later half of the video.

Music Monday (38): Kendrick Lamar, SZA, & Jorja Smith; a.k.a. This Is About Black Panther; I Have No Regrets

Breana: I thought I had this post all planned out. I'd already decided on which songs I would talk about, but then, the Black Panther movie soundtrack happened and I was done for. Oh well. I have no regrets. But, can we just talk about how awesome All the Stars by Kendrick Lamar and SZA is? Not only that, but the music video is visually stunning...

There are so many good songs from the album. It's hard to choose just two to talk about. My second pick is I Am by Jorja Smith. It's lit.

I have to admit, this is one of my favorite movie soundtracks, and I highly recommend listening to the whole album. It's worth it...

Music Monday (37): TLC & Olivia Newton-John

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE

Breana: Lately, I’ve been in a mood where all I want to listen to is older music. As such, my first pick is Physical by Olivia Newton-John. The one I’m talking about today is her live performance at the Sydney Opera House. It’s a gorgeous version of the song; although, if you haven’t heard the original then I recommend giving it a listen too.

My second pick is No Scrubs by TLC. I cannot accurately describe how much I love this song. Also, the esthetic of the music video is still one of my all-time favorites.

Of course, I’ve been listening to more than just the above mentioned songs including music by Samantha Fox, Pretty Poison, and SOS Band, among many others. What are you listening to this week?

Music Monday (36): Miguel, Kehlani, Les Friction, and Shirley Bassey

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE

Breana: I haven’t participated in Music Monday since December of last year. So, I figured that now was a good time to get back into the other weekly meme we participate in here on Our Thoughts Precisely. My first pick is Waves by Miguel. I haven’t listened to his music in a while. But while listening to google music, his song, Waves, came on, and instantly my thoughts were: “I love this song and it’s time to listen to it on repeat.”

My second pick is In My Feelings by Kehlani. Her album, Sweet Sexy Savage, was one of my favorites from 2017. So much so that I went out and bought the Target edition of the CD with the extra songs. Yeah. Anyway, In My Feelings is one of my favorite songs by Kehlani; although, I recommend giving the entire album a listen, because it’s so good.

Adri: My picks for Music Monday are both remakes of songs that I like. They are Kashmir by Les Friction –originally performed by Led Zeppelin, and Slave to the Rhythm by Shirley Bassey –originally sung by Grace Jones.

Music Monday (34): Holiday Music Part 2

Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: Continuing with last week’s theme, I have another new favorite holiday song to talk about this week. I listen to a lot of Sia’s music, and just like Lindsey Stirling, she released a holiday album just in time for December: Everyday is Christmas. I like the whole album. So, it was difficult to pick just one song to focus on today. But, my pick this week is Candy Cane Lane. Listen, I like candy cane, which is part of the reason why I like this song. I mean, beside the fact that it’s just a good song. If you haven’t listened to it yet, I definitely recommend doing that now.

Adri: This week, my pick is This Christmas by Mary Jane Blige.

Music Monday (33): Holiday Music Part 1

Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: This is one post I always look forward to writing. And this year is no different, except for the fact that there have been a lot of holiday albums released just in time for December. My pick this week is Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Lindsey Stirling. I was already a fan of Stirling’s music before she released her holiday album, Warmer in the Winter. Needless to say, I’ve been enjoying it. One of my favorites from the album is Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, which also has a gorgeous music video.

____________________________________________________________________________
Adri: For this Music Monday, I’m choosing  Christmas C ’mon also by Lindsey Stirling; featuring vocals from Becky G, this song appears on the same album. I think I like this song because she preformed it on Dancing with the Stars on the outside stage, albeit, I attended the inside portion… but hey, we got to see the finale performances. Honestly, on a side note, I found her freestyle performance on the first night of the finale exciting. After the finale, we got her CD ASAP.

Music Monday (32): Purity Ring

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: It’s been some time since I lasted participated in Music Monday, but I honestly haven’t had any new songs to share. However, this past week, I’ve been listened to Google Play Music again and have discovered some new music by a familiar artist that I want to share.

I haven’t listened to Purity Ring (the band) since their 2012 album, Shrines, which is one of my favorites in the electronic (electropop/synthpop) genre. I’m actually a little surprised that I missed the release of their second album, Another Eternity, back in 2015. Suffice it to say, I’ve been listening to Another Eternity all weekend. I really love the sound of the album and it does remind me a little of Grimes’s Art Angel album, but it’s still unique. A couple of songs in particular are my favorite. My first pick is Begin Again. I love everything about this song, and the beat sounds particularly fantastic with headphones on.

My second pick is Repetition, which is the song I heard while listening to Google Play Music. Without Repetition I might have continued to overlook Another Eternity altogether.

Have you discovered any new music this week?

Music Monday (31): Banks, Gorillaz, and Ameriie

   Rules:
  • Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren Stoolfire at Always Me that asks you to share one or two songs that you've recently enjoyed. For the rules, visit the page HERE
Breana: I haven’t participated in Music Monday in a while, because I honestly wasn’t listening to anything new. Well, during my absence, I’ve listened to everything from youtube channels that make songs based off video games—like NateWantsToBattle and JT Machinima—to Banks’s sophomore album, The Altar. For today, I’m going to just stick to Banks, specifically, The Altar. It’s not a new album since it came out back in 2016. It’s taken me till now to listen to the entire album, and I just have to say that I love it!

27 Hours is my first pick. Arguably, it’s my favorite song from the album. I love the sound of it. The beginning is good, but once the beat drops I’m just like “Yes.”

My second pick is Poltergeist. I also love this song for its sound. It just fits with the vibes given off by the rest of the album. I’m not going to lie. I’m a total fan of it.

Adri: For this Music Monday, I’m choosing two song that kept me up, literally. Towards the end of last week I delved into a sewing project that required attention to details. Consequently, I decided to stay up later than usual, so I needed songs that didn’t cause a snooze fest. Now, of course I listened to a lot of music, but these are two songs that I kept coming back to. These songs are Strobelite by Gorillaz feat. Peven Everett and Gotta Work by Ameriie.

On a side note, although the last video was posted in July, Ameriie has her own Youtube channel which consist of videos about books and beauty.
