Fall Time Cozy Time Book Tag

So the year is almost over—as weird as it is to already say that. I feel like the time just flew by and the holiday season is already here. Before I get to the book tag, I want to say a quick good luck to anyone participating in NaNoWriMo. I, myself, am not participating, but still, for everyone else, I wish you the best on your novels! Anyway, I haven’t done a book tag in a long time and this one seemed like fun, so I thought why not, it’s fall, and the timing is perfect.

This tag was created by Novels and Nonsense and you can check out her youtube channel HERE. She has a lot of fun videos on her channel so you should definitely check it out if you have the time.

And CLICK HERE to see the original tag video.

Scorched (Scorched, #1)Crunching Leaves: The world is full of color - choose a book that had reds/oranges/yellows on the cover...

I’m going with Mari Mancusi's Scorched. The red, orange, and yellow really make me think of fall, especially the leaves after they've changed colors.

Love Fortunes and Other DisastersCozy Sweater - It's finally cool enough to don warm cozy clothing: what book gives you the warm fuzzies?

Love Fortunes and Other Disasters by Kimberly Karalius was a book that made me happy. There were a lot of things I enjoyed about this novel, and I’m really looking forward to the sequel.

Fall Storm: The wind is howling & the rain is pounding - choose your favorite book OR genre that you like to read on a stormy day...

Oh, anything really, but my first choice would be fantasy then science fiction and anything else after that.

The Ironwood Tree (The Spiderwick Chronicles, #4) Cool Crisp Air: What's the coolest character you'd want to trade places with?

I would go with Mallory Grace from the Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. The adventure throughout the entire series was pretty cool (despite all the fairy mayhem) and Mallory was one of my favorite characters. So, I wouldn’t mind trading places with her.

Oleah Chronicles: TruthHot Apple Cider: What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest, hottest thing?

Oleah Chronicles: Truth by Michelle Johnson. You can check out the review for the book HERE and I did an interview with the author HERE

Coat, Scarves, and Mittens - The weather has turned cold & it's time to cover up - What's the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

I don’t have one. Most of the books I have do have some pretty nice covers. And if there was one, then I’ve forgotten about it by now.

Pumpkin Spice: What's your favorite Fall time comforts food/foods?

Oh, I have a lot of different ones, but I do enjoy them being warm when the weather is colder. (Pumpkin/ sweet potato pie, homemade macaroni and cheese—various dishes like that especially in November.

Warm, Cozy Bonfire: Spread the cozy warmth - Who do you tag?

As always, I tag no one specifically. If you want to participate in the tag then go for it. These questions are really fun!

Happy Reading!

Summer Lovin' Book Tag

Today I'm participating in the Summer Lovin' Book Tag since I'm kind of sad that summer is over. It kind of seems like the time flew by way too quickly, but that's besides the point. As always, check out the original tag video HERE over on Richard Denney's Youtube Channel.

Start of summer: Pick a book with an attention grabbing first sentence?

I’m going to pick Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. With this series I actually started with the second book, read the last one, all before I went back to start the trilogy from the beginning. “The Austrian horses glinted in the moonlight, their riders standing tall in the saddle, swords raised.” It was the perfect opening for the novel.

Too hot to go Out: Pick a book for a day in?

I would pick any book from the Double Vision series (Double Vision, Code Name 711, The Alias Men) by F.T. Bradley.

Summer Road trip: Pick a book you’d take with you on the road?

If I was going to take a book with me I would probably choose Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. It’s been a very long time since I read it so it would be kind of nice to finally reread it.

Iced Tea Goodness: Pick a book with a cold setting?

Kiss of Frost by Jennifer Estep (There was lots of snow in this book.)

Nasty Sunburn: A book you really disliked (so far) this year?

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. You can read my thoughts on the novel HERE, but there were factors that I didn't like and I found it difficult to get into the story.

Sizzling Read: Recommend one of your favorite books?

I really can't decide between Scarlett Undercover by Jennifer Latham and Love Fortunes and Other disasters by Kimberly Karalius. I recommend both of them because they were great books.

And that's it. Don't forget to check out Richard Denney's Youtube Channel, and if you want to do this tag, go for it, because I tag you. Happy reading!

Nintendo Book Tag

I haven’t done one of these in a long time, so today I’m going to take part in the Nintendo Book Tag. This tag was created by Novels and Nonsense over on YouTube—you should really check out her channel, she has a lot of great videos. You can see the original tag video HERE

1. NES (Nintendo Entertainment System): A Classic you want to read

Just one? I don’t know, there are a lot of classics I want to read, but most recently I really want to pick up the novels for Jurassic Park and the complete Wizard of Oz series.

2. SNES (Super Nintendo): A Sequel you liked more than the 1st (can be a 2nd book in a series)

Wow, actually this is a difficult question for me. Usually it’s the opposite. Anyway, I have to go with Kiss of Frost by Jennifer Estep. Even though I loved the first one, the second one was just as good if not better.

3. Nintendo 64: A book that revolutionized the way you look at the world

It’s not one specific book that did it for me, but dozens of them that would take all day to list.

4. Gamecube: A popular book that did not go over so well with you

Oh boy, I can name a few of them—lots of them actually—but I’m just going to stick with one for today. And it’s going to be Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. It just wasn’t my kind of book.

5. Wii: A new favorite book

Finding Serendipity—it’s a middle grade novel that I read earlier this year—and I have to say that I absolutely loved it.

6. Nintendo Power: Favorite Graphic novel series or a series you want to start

I don’t read many graphic novels so for this one I’m going to go with one of my all-time favorite manga series: D. Gray-Man.

7. Super Mario: A Character that you'd love to squish like a Goomba

This is an easy one: Alcantara, a vampire from The Watchers series by Veronica Wolff. There are just so many reasons why I disliked him, mainly because of the things he did throughout the entire series. So he totally deserves to be squished like a Goomba.

8. Zelda: A newer fantasy that you consider to be a modern classic

I absolutely love Mistborn. The world building was fantastic and the overall story was entirely enjoyable.

9. Samas-Aran: Favorite Sci-fi novel or one you want to read

I would actually like to read Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (it’s just not out yet) and These Broken Stars also by Amie Kaufman with Meagan Spooner.

10. Pokemon: Book editions that you want to collect

All of the Barnes and Noble classic editions.

11. Donkey Kong: A book with original characters

For this one I’m going to go with Love Fortunes and Other Disasters by Kimberly Karalius. The characters in the novel had very unique interests and habits that I’ve rarely seen.

12. Nintendo Fandom: Favorite Nintendo game(s) or game you really want

Mario Kart—I would also like a reboot of Double Dash because that game was a whole lot of fun.

Don’t forget to check out Novels and Nonsense on YouTube. And because this is such a fun one, I tag anyone who wants to participate. Happy reading!

Reading Habits Book Tag

Today I'm participating in the Reading Habits Book Tag created by TheBookJazz. This one has been around for a while, but it seemed like it might be fun to answer the questions anyway. As always, don't forget to check out the original video HERE

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I usually just read at my desk since its closer to where I keep the majority of my books. Plus I have a lamp there that provides the perfect amount of light for reading.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Sometimes I'll use a bookmark, but I hardly do.  Most of the time I just dog ear the tops of the pages.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

Honestly, I can stop reading at any point of the book. It doesn't have to be at the start of a new chapter or after a certain amount of pages.  It depends solely on when I feel like putting the book down or need to stop and do other things.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

I sometimes drink water, but I usually leave the book behind if I'm about to eat. The last thing I want to do is spill something on it. Food stains on a book would be a pretty terrible thing.

Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

I actually like to listen to music while reading. TV is a little more distracting, but I've done it before and there's a high probability that I'll do it again in the next few days.

One book at a time or several at once?

Oh, definitely one book at a time. In fact, I like to give myself at least a week to finish a book and the review before moving on to something else.

Reading at home or everywhere?

At home—I don't like reading when I'm out since there's too many things that would end up distracting me.

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Mostly I'll read silently in my head unless I'm reading parts of a book to someone else during a discussion or something like it.

Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

What?  Read ahead?  Skipping Pages?  I'd like to say no way. However, its a little more complicated than that. I won't skip ahead especially if its a book that I'm enjoying.  Now if its something that's failing to get my interest I might skip a number of pages to see if I want to even continue on with the book in question.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Uh, I really don't care about the spines of my books, so breaking them isn't a problem for me.

Do you write in your books?

Uh-uh, no. I don't write in my books under any circumstance.  I might dog ear the pages but writing in them is a big no for me. I'd rather use Post It's to stick little notes in the books if I really needed to.

Who do you tag?

I tag anyone who wants to participate.

Don't forget to visit TheBookJazz over on Youtube. Happy reading!

Would You Rather Book Tag

So today I’m going to participate in the Would You Rather Book Tag created by RayKayBooks over on youtube. Link to the original video: CLICK HERE

Read only trilogies or standalones?

While I do love series sometimes I’m just looking for a single story that’s completed in one book. So, I have to go with standalones.

Read only female or male authors?

I can’t choose between them, so I’m just going to have to go with both. Sure, it’s a cop-out answer, but I really can’t decide because some of my favorite authors are male as well as others that are female.

Shop at Barnes & Noble or Amazon?

I’m going to say Barnes & Noble because I enjoy going to the store to see what they have rather than browsing the selection online.

All books become movies or TV shows?

Sometimes I think that books with more information in them would do better as TV shows, not that I don’t like movies. However my answer for this one would be TV show.

Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

5 pages per day, because I want to have time to do others things besides reading.

Be a professional reviewer or author?

N/A

Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

I would actually read the books I haven’t read before, because rereading only my favorites would mean that I would be passing up all the other great books out there that I haven’t discovered yet.

Be a librarian or book seller?

My answer for this one is book seller.

Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

Oh man, this is a tough question considering that I would really want to read books in my favorite genre, but that would be kind of restrictive. So, I have to go with every genre except my favorite.

Only read physical books or eBooks?

Physical books all the way, because I still prefer them over ebooks.

Well those are my answers. I’m not tagging anyone specifically, but if you want to participate then I tag you. And don't forget to check out RayKayBooks on youtube. Happy reading!

Alice Book Tag

I thought I would do something different today and making a book tag seemed like fun. So here is my Alice Book Tag inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

“Down the Rabbit-Hole” What are the first books you've read by three of your favorite authors?

I first read the Rithmatist when I won a hardcover copy, and since then I’m a total Brandon Sanderson fan. Jennifer Estep is my second pick, and I started with Touch of Frost.  And for my last pick, I'm going to go with F.T. Bradley's Double Vision.

“Pool of Tears” What book did you think you would love, but ended up not liking?

I’m sorry, I really am, but I thought I would like Towering by Alex Flinn. It was a retelling—I thought I would like it—but nope, nope, nope. Now that I think about it there was a review for it, but it never got posted.

“A Mad Tea-Party” What is one of your favorite series that has more than three books?

I’m going to go with the Mythos Academy series by Jennifer Estep—plus I have all of the print books.

“The Queen’s Croquet Ground” What's your favorite book that has a prince or princess somewhere in the story?

For this one I’m going to say the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer.

And finally “It’s a Cheshire-Cat” What favorite book has a thief as a main or secondary character?

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson—I don’t think this one needs much of an explanation.  If you want to know what I mean, just read the book.

I'm not going to tag anyone since this was just for fun. Feel free to use my questions if you would like to make your own post, but all I ask is that you link back to the original (and/or let me know because I'd love to see your answers). Thanks for stopping by and happy reading!
